Four Long Hours

For the last three years, I’ve been going to dialysis treatments on Monday, Wednesdays, and Fridays. My treatments are four hours each. The question I get the most is what do you do for four hours?? Believe it or not I do a pretty good job of keeping myself entertained. So (once again because I love list) here’s a list of some things I do and some things you should maybe avoid doing.

Things to do in Dialysis:

  1. Listen to some music (and put on a free concert, you’re welcome)

  2. Enjoy some snacks

  1. Watch drama between old ladies..

  1. Eat some more snacks

  2. Sleep (Honestly, I can count on one hand the number of times I’ve done this. #staywoke)

  1. Other things I do: Catch up on TV shows, study French (duolingo.com -add me as a friend!), Catch up with friends (either on the phone/computer or friends who’ve stopped by to sit with me), Plan trips (real ones and pretend ones)

Things NOT do:

  1. Engage in old lady drama

  2. Freak out. I won’t lie, It can be scary, painful, and overwhelming at times, but don’t lose your cool. We can get through this much better if we’re calm.

  3. Eat big fast food meals. Believe it or not. I’ve definitely seen people bring in fast food and Big Gulps regularly. I get it. We all slip up, but don’t cancel out your treatment by loading on even more sodium/phosphorus/fluid. FYI- Some of my favorite snacks are blue corn chips, green apples, dry cereal, and skinny pop (not all at once-chill).

Anyway, that’s all I have for now. I’ll check in soon. IM me for the deets on the old lady drama 😉
